The Big Apple Academy takes its roots in the affiliated Bambi Academy, a Day Care Center founded by and oriented mostly towards Russian-speaking immigrants. Dueto the success of the program, the parents and administration realized that it was time to move to the next level—creating not both pre-K classes, and a K-8 school.
In 1992 the first Kindergarten class was opened, and the school matured into a large educational center—Big Apple Academy. The school created its own curricula, developed new teaching methods, purchased equipment and sought out best textbooks and workbooks. The efforts proved successful, and in 2010 a high school was opened—thus the institution became a full-fledged K-12 school.[1][2][3]
Today Big Apple Academy includes three schools — elementary school (Kindergarten through 5th grade), junior high school (6th through 8th grade) and high school (9th through 12th grade). Each school has its own schedule and daily plan.
The Big Apple Academy is committed to providing an excellent education that takes into account the interests, abilities and needs of each student and promotes both an understanding of diversity in our community as an integral part of school life and appreciation for it. It is seen as vital that each student at the Academy develops his or her intellectual independence, as well as creativity and curiosity.
The Academy's approach embodies a great array of learning methods and teaching styles. The teachers successfully combine innovative and traditionally effective educational techniques in order to arouse students' interest in the learning process. The curriculum is based on the individual abilities and interests of each student in order to ensure that every young person takes pride in his or her accomplishments. The fundamental academic philosophy is to educate and nurture a diverse student population so that each child, as a whole person, may excel intellectually, live spiritually and act justly.
